Denmark Open 2023: How Did Malaysia Fare?

Every year, there are a number of badminton championships that are hosted all around the world, but the BWF is easily one of the most anticipated of the year. Teams from all around the world come to compete in this fast-paced and exciting championship, hoping to prove their strength and skill and ultimately come up on top.

The 2023 Denmark Open proved to be an enthralling event which had most betters placing their bets on Lee Zii Jia from Malaysia as the winner for this year's tournament. The odds were only slightly stacked against him at 1.93 when compared to Weng Hongyang's 1.75, but in the end Chinese Weng Hongyang wound up taking the Men's Singles championship title.

However, with regards to Malaysia, players Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik wound up taking the win for the Men's Doubles. This came as a surprise for many fans, as they were definitely an underdog team that made quite a surprising upturn to victory in this championship. Despite Malaysia's official stance against sports betting, there are plenty of opportunities for Malaysians to wager on sports including badminton. The best betting sites in Malaysia offer competitive odds, but on this particular game, the pre-game odds were somewhat in favor of the Malaysian team winning at around 1.45, as they had already started to prove their worth by then (source: https://sportslensmalaysia1.com/betting-sites/).

So despite being underdogs, it was clear that by the time the Malaysians had made it to the finals that they were the surefire win and certainly lived up to predictions by playing excellently winning with an 8 and 4 point lead in both games respectively.

This isn't the first time this dynamic duo have won championships. Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik made their debut performance together as a team back in 2015 and at the 2019 SEA Games, the two managed to secure a gold medal - the first gold for Malaysia in badminton history. In the 2020 Olympics, they managed to beat Indonesia's Ahsan and Setiawan to claim the Bronze medal for Malaysia. In 2022, they were the first Malaysian players to win a BWF World Championship in Tokyo. So it looks like we can expect to see more victories from them in the future, as they play extremely well together as a team.

Since then, the team have climbed from strength to strength so are definitely worth keeping an eye out for in the future. Being able to come up tops against a strong team like Indonesia twice shows that their victory was not merely a fluke, but sheer raw talent.

The two have come up against teams like South Korea, Thailand, and India before and emerged victorious. Because of the fast-paced nature of a game like badminton, it's often difficult to predict how a game will turn out from the beginning. Thankfully though, Malaysia's wonder-boy double team seem to be living up to their predictions from sports betting sites which makes them a good bet in any game.
