5th September 2022; this day will be marked as one of the best days for 22 Mohun Bagan cricketers as they signed their first-ever professional contracts in Kolkata Club cricket. This is the first time in Kolkata club cricket's history that one team has signed professional contracts with its players. On day 6 of the transfer window, Monhu Bagan AC signed a few of the brightest stars of Bengal cricket along with many youngsters as well.
With prominent coach Pranob Nandy signing for the mariners as a coach, all knew he would take some tough decisions on and off the field. Exclusions of a few Mohun Bagan greats and inclusions of some young, fresh talents remark the same. Bengal cricketers Kazi Zunaid Saifi, Abishek Porel and Anustup Majumdar had already signed for them for the upcoming season. Today it was young pacers Sandipan Das (jr), Golam Mustafa, and Aditya Verma were among the future stars of Bengal who wore green and maroon.
However, just like the previous season, the maidan giant has enormous experience in their squad. Abhimanyu Easwaran, Raj Kumar Pal, Arnab Nandi, Prinan Dutta, Tuhin Banerjee and Arindam Ghosh are among them.
Arnab, who is Kolkata cricket's one of the finest ever, joined the team last year. But, he was not able to deliver trophies which was his reputation for arch-rival East Bengal. "When you play for public teams like Mohun Bagan, the fans would want you to win trophies. So, there will be love and pressure as well. I love that pressure. I play to win trophies and hopefully, we will win many trophies this season," Arnab said in an exclusive interview with Sportz Point.
"Last year, we lacked the combination of youth and experience. This year, we have a balance between youth and experience. And most importantly, we have Pranob Nandy sir as the coach. He is renowned for his record of winning trophies for every team he has coached. So, we will surely win some trophies this season." Arnab added.
Last year's Mohun Bagan's cricketer of the year Prinann Dutta echoed the same thoughts of Arnab Nandi. Prinann feels those runs do not matter until it converts into trophies. "Mohun Bagan means trophies. So, we have to deliver. This is a great opportunity for the young boys as well. They will have the guidance of the Pranob sir as well. And, we the seniors, will do everything and anything to make it a successful year ahead," Prinann said.
Meanwhile, Arindam Ghosh, who will be playing his 13th season for Mohun Bagan is extremely excited to play under Pranob sir for the first time. The Railways stalwart said, "I am very much excited to play under him. I am sure he will bring something new to the table which will be beneficial for us as a team."
"Last year, our batting did not click when it was needed. Even we had some issues in the bowling sector as well along with some unfortunate injuries. I am sure we have covered every corner this year. I am pretty sure, with some young boys coming in, we will win trophies for the club," Arindam expressed.
