Despite rising cases of Covid-19 in the country, the BCCI is confident that the IPL 2022 auction in February will not be pushed. Keeping that in mind, the Indian board has sent letters to the other cricket boards and state associations to send the names of interested players by January 17.

With 10 teams and a bigger auction, BCCI expects no less than 1000 names. But the Indian board will narrow down the list of players and release around 250 of them for the auction pool. The final list will be out after the two new franchises Ahmedabad and Lucknow announce their three picks by January 22.

"We approached our partner boards a month back to send the list of players. We expect them to send the list of players by January 17. This time, we expect over 1000 players but only 250 of them will be in the auction. The names will be released by the end of January. We have seen an increase in the interest with the growing brand value of IPL."
