Delhi Capitals have selected Bengal wicket-keeper batsman Abhishek Porel in place of injured Rishabh Pant in IPL 2023. An official announcement on Porel's signing is yet to be made, but the selection has been made after practice matches at a week-long camp in Delhi. Pant has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to injury. The regular captain of Delhi Capitals is currently recovering from injury. In his absence, David Warner will lead the team. While Akshar Patel will play the role of vice-captain.
According to media reports, Bengal's wicket-keeper batsman Abhishek Porel will join in the Delhi Capitals team. Recently, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting had taken trials of some of India's wicketkeepers to find a replacement for Rishabh Pant in IPL 2023. Many wicketkeepers were called to Delhi in this trial which lasted for 5 to 6 days. Abhishek Porel was also included in these wicketkeepers. Sheldon Jackson, Lavnith Sisodia, and Vivek Singh were given match practice along with Porel. Delhi Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly and head coach Ricky Ponting keeping an eye on them for the last one week.
20-year-old Abhishek Porel is a wicket-keeper batsman from Bengal. He plays for Bengal in domestic cricket. Delhi have taken Porel on the basis of his performance in the domestic cricket season for Bengal where he did well with the gloves but failed to score big with the bat. Talking about Abhishek's career, this player has not been able to perform anything special. He has 22 runs in three Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches, in which he scored 20 not out in one match. At the same time, in first-class cricket, he has scored six half-centuries in 26 innings, in which 73 runs is the best. In such a situation, the team has played a bet by taking Abhishek Porel as a replacement in IPL 2023.

Rishabh Pant was injured in a car accident while going to Roorkee in December. Due to this, he torn his ligament. Apart from this, he also injured his hand, leg, and back. His primary treatment was first done at Max Hospital in Dehradun. After that, he was referred to Mumbai. Although Pant is recovering, but he is completely out of IPL 2023. It may take about 6-7 months for him to get fit.
