Ranji Trophy is the premier first-class cricket tournament in India, the upcoming 2021-22 season is going to be the 87th season. Meanwhile, the league stage is set to take place from 17 February to 15 March 2022 and the knockout phase will be played from 30 May to 26 June 2022. Due to COVID-19 the pandemic situation, the last year's matches were canceled. However, as things are coming back to normal the matches are returned to the Indian domestic calendar. Also, the tournament is being divided into six groups with six teams.

Overall, the tournament will have 64 matches played in 62 days, with teams divided into nine groups - Eight Elite and one Plate. The Elite group will consist of four teams, and the Plate Group will have six teams. During the league phase, each team will play three matches. Elite teams will face all the other sides in their group. Meanwhile, the Plate teams will play only against three sides from theirs.

The BCCI also said that the top seven teams amongst the eight Elite Group toppers would qualify directly for the quarter-finals. However, the lowest-ranked team would play a pre-quarterfinal match against the Plate Group topper. Check out Ranji Trophy 2021-22 groupings below.

Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya

Group B:

Bengal, Baroda, Hyderabad, Chandigarh

Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Puducherry, Railways

Goa, Mumbai, Odisha, Saurashtra
