Rajasthan Royals is getting ready for the upcoming IPL 2022, starting in only a few days. The T20 tournament commences on 26 March with CSK vs KKR in Mumbai. The winner of the inaugural IPL season, RR will play their first clash of the campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 29 March. RR's director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara spoke on the team in a conversation with "Red Bull Cricket".

Rajasthan Royals had quite an amazing auction for IPL 2022. Among all their buys, Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer, Daryll Mitchell are some youngsters who had great performances in the past seasons. The Indian successful spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin also joined the franchise this year.

While conversing with "Red Bull Cricket" on Clubhouse, Kumar Sangakkara conversed about the present updates and that team composition. The director of cricket also spoke about the influence and importance of the young cricketers in the squad.

The interviewer asked him, "Any aspect from the game from players like Devdutt Padikkal, Hetmyer, and Yashasvi Jaiswal that you would've liked to have if you were playing?" Sangakkara replied to the question, "Devdutt Padikkal's leg-side play, his flicks, and his ability against pace are wonderful. Jaiswal.. his power and enthusiasm, in terms of the off-side play. Hetmyer's ability to hit sixers and Parag's ability to hit sixers for fun."

He said about the young Indian cricketer Padikkal, "I've watched Devdutt Padikkal over the last two seasons. He's such an exciting player, so accomplished. I just want him to know how valuable he is for the team."

As the much-awaited IPL 2025 is set to resume from May 17, after facing disruption for several days due to the India-Pakistan conflict. As a result, many overseas players, who had flown back to their respective countries, are facing trouble rejoining their IPL franchises.

Some have stated injury issues, while others have their international commitments ahead. Therefore, each team had to make certain changes and sign temporary replacements for the remaining matches.

Overseas players return status for the remainder of IPL 2025

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the resumption of the IPL 2025, bringing cheer to cricket fans across the nation. Following detailed discussions with government and security agencies, the BCCI has confirmed that the season will proceed with a revised schedule, ensuring both safety and excitement.

IPL 2025 was suspended for one week due to the rising tension between India and Pakistan. It will be interesting to see with most of the foreign players already going back home, they will return for the remainder of the IPL 2025 or not.

The remaining 17 matches will be played across six venues, kicking off on May 17, 2025, and concluding with the final on June 3, 2025. The schedule includes two double-header Sundays, adding to the thrill of the tournament. The playoff stage is set as follows:

• Qualifier 1: May 29

• Eliminator: May 30

• Qualifier 2: June 1

• Final: June 3

The BCCI expressed gratitude to India’s armed forces for their bravery and resilience, which have made the safe return of the IPL possible. The Board emphasised its commitment to the national interest while ensuring the successful completion of the league.

IPL 2025 Revised schedule

The rising star of RCB, Devdutt Padikkal, is ruled out of IPL 2025 following injury issues, leaving a void in the team. As a result, Mayank Agarwal has been brought in as his replacement for the rest of the tournament.

Devdutt Padikkal in IPL 2025

Devdutt Padikkal had an amazing season in IPL 2025 with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru so far. He played in 10 matches for RCB this season and was pretty impactful as a no. 3 batter for the team. 

Padikkal's strike rate of 150.61 this season was the highest of his IPL career. He scored a total of 247 runs in 10 matches, with 2 back-to-back half centuries.

We witnessed some spectacular rhythm of partnership between Padikkal and Virat Kohli, and their perfect sync of running between the wickets.

How does Padikkal's injury affect RCB?

Devdutt Padikkal's sudden hamstring injury brings a new challenge for RCB as they might need some time to make proper adjustments in the playing XI. As Padikkal had already established his presence as a number 3 batter, the team may have to try out new combinations to find a solid pace in their batting order.

RCB has already identified a suitable player for this role, but seeing how it goes for the team as the playoffs are approaching will be a challenging thing to witness.

Mayank Agarwal returns to RCB after 12 years 

The Bengaluru born batsman, Mayank Agarwal, who started his IPL career with the franchise in 2011, made comeback after 12 years. This homecoming is a special one for the team as Mayank has significant IPL experience, having scored 2661 runs in 127 matches so far.
