Phalguni Singh scored in the fourth minute to give the home side a lead but Mohun Bagan then scored in the 14th minute to level the scoreline. Cummings put up a great show and provided the visitors with the lead when he scored in the 28th minute. Tondonba Singh's red card forced NorthEast to play with 10 men. Mohun Bagan capitalized on that and ensured three points when Subhasish Bose scored in the 71st minute. The Mariners are now in the third spot of the ISL 2023/24 points table with 6 victories and 1 draw in 7 matches while the Highlanders are struggling at the 7th spot with only 10 points.

ISL 2023/24: What happened in the match?

Phalguni's goal was quite brilliant. He went for the shot from outside of the box, curling the ball into the top right corner to get the local crowd going straight away.

But the Mariners hit back through the flanks, stretching the backline of the Highlanders and carving out spaces down the centre for strikers Armando Sadiku and Jason Cummings.

The Australian tapped the ball in from close range to get the visitors ahead in the 28th minute of the game. Cummings has been so amazing since his arrival at the club and he once again delivered at the right time.

The Highlanders never really recovered from that goal. Colaco, Hugo Boumous, and Manvir Singh running circled the opposition's box for the whole first half. The home side were found nowhere in the pitch.

Tondonba saw a second yellow for his reckless challenge on Kiyan and that completely buried NorthEast United's hope to create something in the second half.

The comfortable two-goal lead did not stop the Mariners from searching for more goals. In the 71st minute, Colaco found overlapping Subhasish Bose with a wonderful weighted pass and the Mohun Bagan captain took a wonderful shot at goal to find the far corner. The Mariners extended their lead and it was enough to bury NorthEast United at home.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant will face Mumbai City FC away from home on December 20, whereas NorthEast United FC will travel to take on Bengaluru FC on December 24. Both games will be important as Mohun Bagan will try to continue their unbeaten run in the league whereas NorthEast would like to register their 3rd victory.
