Eintracht Frankfurt have it all to do when they travel to Naples for Napoli vs Frankfurt can cause an upset in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
Napoli vs Frankfurt: Match Preview:
The runaway Serie A leaders stormed Frankfurt three weeks ago, coming away with a 2-0 win against last season's Europa League champions, which leaves them in a commanding position in the tie.
They have arguably been the story of the season so far, with Luciano Spalletti's side set to capture just the third league title in club history and the pair of Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia quickly becoming two of the most sought-after players in world football. Frankfurt will need a near-miracle to stop the Neapolitan train rolling into the quarter finals.
Team News:
Napoli:
Goalkeeper Alex Meret suffered a sprained wrist in the warm-up prior to the Atalanta fixture at the weekend and so he is a doubt here. However, he is expected to be ready for the matchup and will likely replace backup Pierluigi Gollini in between the sticks.
Giacomo Raspadori will be unable to add to his impressive tally of four Champions League goals this term since he has been missing since the beginning of last month due to a thigh problem. On the bright side, central defender Kim Min-jae has overcome a slight calf issue that he suffered against Atalanta and will be ready to go for this one.
Frankfurt:
The absence of Kolo Muani is the biggest talking point of this tie and the chances of Frankfurt making it past the last 16 appear extremely slim. However, both Djibril Sow and Ansgar Knauff are expected to feature after dealing with minor injuries. Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe and Jesper Lindstrom are unavailable.
Napoli vs Frankfurt: Head to Head:
- Eintracht Frankfurt have a slight edge over Napoli and have won two out of the three games played between the two teams, as opposed to Napoli's one victory.
- Napoli have won their last two matches against German teams in European competitions - as many victories as they had managed in the 12 such games preceding this run.
- Eintracht Frankfurt's previous away victory against Napoli came by a 1-0 scoreline in the UEFA Cup in December 1994.
