The Indian hockey team is the first non-European team to participate in the International Hockey Federation. The most successful sport at the Olympics in India is Hockey. The Captain of the Indian Hockey team is Manpreet Singh. He is leading the team since May 2017. The popularity of Hockey is mostly overshadowed by Cricket in India, but since the Indian Hockey team is leaving no stones left behind to bring glory to the nation. Here is a list of all the 21 Indian Hockey Captains who have led the Indian Hockey team in the Olympics since the beginning, 1928.

1. Jaipal Singh Mudra (1928 Amsterdam Olympics)

He is the first Indian hockey captain to win the first gold medal in the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. The late hockey player was also an Indian politician, member of the Constituent Assembly, and sportsman. In 1970, he died of a cerebral hemorrhage.

2. Lal Shah Bokhari (1932 Los Angeles Olympics)

In the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, the Indian hockey team clinched the gold medal under the captaincy of Lal Shah Bokhari. He was also one of the team players in the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics.

3. Dhyan Chand (1936 Berlin Olympics)

Dhyan Chand is considered one of the greatest hockey players ever. He is one of the persons behind the glory and popularity of hockey in India. He was a part of three Olympics in 1928, 1932, 1936 when India won the gold medals. Due to his extraordinary control and goal-scoring skills, he is also known as The Magician or The Wizard.

4. Kishan Lal (1948 London Olympics)

Indian hockey team won the first gold medal as an independent country in the 1948 London Olympics. Kishan Lal was the captain of the team at that time.

5. Kunwar Digvijay Singh (1952 Helsinki Olympics)

Kunwar Digvijay Singh is considered one of the respected and greatest players in hockey history. He was the captain of the Indian hockey team in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. He was also called Babu by everyone. Also, he was very popular for his passing tricks and was often compared with the legend Dhyan Chand.

6. Balbir Singh Sr. (1956 Melbourne Olympics)

Balbir Singh Sr. was the captain of the Indian hockey team in the 19 56 Melbourne Olympics when India won the Gold medal. The former captain was a pivotal part of the 1948 London Olympics, 1952 Helsinki Olympics, and 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Due to his immense contribution to sport, he is often regarded as the modern-day Dhyan Chand. He has also created a record of scoring the most goals by an individual in an Olympics men's hockey final.

7. Charanjit Singh (1964 Tokyo Olympics)

Charanjit Singh was the Indian hockey captain in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He led the team from the front when the team won the gold medal. Also, he won the silver medal in the 1962 Asian Games.

8. Vasudevan Baskaran (1980 Moscow Olympics)

The last time the Indian hockey team won the gold medal was in the 1964 Moscow Olympics under the captaincy of Vasudevan Baskaran. The former captain is now the Chief Coach of Bhopal Badshahs in the World Series Hockey league.
