The announcements reveals that the coaches will receive Rs 12.5 lakhs for Gold Rs 10 lakhs for Silver and Rs 7.5 lakhs for Bronze medal. Coaches who trained and accompanied medal winning athletes will be eligible for the award.
Though, earlier it was announced that only cash award will be given to medal winners and concerned associations. However, this announcement will surely make all the coaches happy. It is quite undeniable that every coach plays a major role in athletes' performance.
As Miarabai Chanu won silver in 49-kg weightlifting event, she will receive Rs 50 lakhs in cash from the IOA. However, the day 1 at Olympics 2020 was not that good for India. But, they managed to pull it back in events like shooting, table tennis and weightlifting.
"Contribution of the coaches for winning an Olympic medal by an athlete cannot be ignored. They definitely deserve appreciation and support so we at the IOA decided to acknowledge their contribution suitably hence announced cash awards for them."Rajeev Mehta the Secretary General IOA
