Australian all-rounder Cameron Green was already the subject of much discussion in the 19th season of the Indian Premier League auction in Abu Dhabi. He was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders, who have the largest purse in this auction, spending ₹25.20 crore to acquire Green for the next season. However, Green will get only Rs 18 crore, the main reason behind which is the BCCI rules.

Green will only get 18 crore
Mumbai Indians started the bid at Rs 2 crore before KKR and Rajasthan Royals engaged in a battle up to Rs 13 crore. However, once RR pulled out, Chennai Super Kings jumped in and fought until Rs 25 crore, before KRR made the winning bid for Rs 25.20 crore.

Green, however, will not get the entire amount of Rs 25.20 crore. The Australian all-rounder will only get Rs 18 crore, while the other Rs 7.20 crore will go to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
What is BCCI's maximum fee rule?
Before the mega auction for the IPL 2025 season, the BCCI had made some new rules, one of which was the maximum fee under which a foreign player cannot get more than Rs 18 crore. The biggest reason behind this was the concern of the franchises, in which they expressed that some foreign players try to participate in the mini auction only to earn more money.
According to the BCCI's maximum fee rule, if a foreign player is bid for more than Rs 18 crore, then the extra money will be used by the BCCI for the welfare of the players. The highest fee for any foreign player in the mini auction is Rs 18 crore, while in the mega auction it will be less than the auction price of the highest Indian player.
