Justin Gatlin announced his retirement from athletics after a glorious career. With a pair of doping bans, Justin's achievement includes a lot starting from Olympic gold medal to numerous world titles. The US sprinter took to social media to confirm the announcement of his retirement.

The 40-year-old veteran shared the news on Instagram with the caption, "I have loved you track. You gave me tears of sadness and of joy, lessons learned that will never be forgotten. The torch is passed but the love will never fade. On your mark, get set … Gone!"

Justin's career in a nutshell:

The three-time Olympian won the gold medal in the 100 m at the 2004 Athens Olympics. He also completed 100m and 200m sprints double at the 2005 world championships in Helsinki. Justin Gatlin is also the winner of the gold at the 100m of the 2017 Worlds in London. He achieved it by defeating Jamaican icon Usain Bolt meanwhile. Justin's list of achievements and accomplishments is quite long and he contributed a lot to his nation and the sport. The US sprinter was a part of the USA's gold-medal 4x100m relay team at the 2019 Doha World Championships.

Still, he had some ups and downs in between. Due to doping-related concerns, Gatlin got suspended twice. In 2001, he got his first doping suspension for the use of Adderall. He is using the drug since childhood to treat his attention deficit disorder. The US arbitration panel in control of the case declared that Gatlin was "certainly not a doper."

Again in a second positive test in 2006, they foud found extreme levels of testosterone in his system. Though he blamed the results on sabotage by a therapist. He was locked with the therapist in a financial dispute. As a result, he was banned for 8 years for that offense. Later, it was reduced to 4 years on appeal.

The controversies and mishaps stayed with him throughout his career. The athletics fans did not spare any opportunity to remind him of his unsettled history. Gatlin even received a lot of hate for his victory at the London World Championships as he beat his rival Usain Bolt.
