Zverev lunged at umpire Alessandro Germani's chair after succumbing in doubles in Mexican Open 2022, on Tuesday. He was angry about a line decision in the match. As a consequence, the German came frighteningly near to striking him as he swiped at the official's stand before heading to his courtside seat.

However, he didn't stop there. The runner-up in the 2020 US Open approached the chair a second time and slammed into it while yelling profanities. Germany gave Zverev a code of violation just before the match finished. It was for shouting and cursing in objection to a shot that was deemed in.

However, After being forfeited from the event where he won the singles title last year due to "unsportsmanlike conduct," Zverev apologised. Before this, Australian Nick Kyrgios received a suspended ban of 16 weeks, after a fine of $113,000. In addition, following an internal inquiry, the ATP fined him $25,000 for "aggravated behaviour."
