Another triumph at Australia, where Novak Djokovic has nine titles, would have fetched him 21 Major Titles, along with the honour of being the first man to accomplish such feat. Nevertheless, it was his long-time adversary Rafael Nadal who ended up taking the trophy last month.
In an interview with the BBC, the 34-year-old Serb stated that he was conscious that he would be unable to travel to most tournaments worldwide due to his unvaccinated condition.
He unveiled, "I was never against vaccination. I've always supported the freedom to choose what you put in your body. I understand that globally, everyone is trying to put a big effort into handling this virus and seeing, hopefully, an end soon to this virus."
"The principles of decision making on my body are more important than any title or anything else. I'm trying to be in tune with my body as much as I possibly can," the 20-time grand slam champion added.
