Tiley revealed that the 22-time Grand Slam champion is preparing to compete in the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. Rafael Nadal is ready for his last season. The 37-year-old Spaniard has been away from competitive tennis since suffering an injury in January. Nadal decided to sit out the entire season to recover.
Rafael Nadal has said he expects to retire following the 2024 season, with a series of injuries limiting his appearances on Tour. The Spaniard has slipped to number 240 in the rankings but is eligible to receive a protected ranking having been injured and not competing in any tennis event for at least six months. In Nadal’s absence, Novak Djokovic has gone on to win a record 24 Grand Slams.
Apart from Rafael Nadal, three former winners Naomi Osaka, Caroline Wozniacki and Angelique Kerber are also set to return to the Australian Open tennis tournament next year.
Meanwhile, Osaka, Wozniacki and Kerber are set to return to the tournament to be held from January 14 to 28 after maternity leave. This will be the first time in the Australian Open while the tournament will start on Sunday. This will be the second Grand Slam tournament after the French Open which will be played for 15 days.
Rafael Nadal has won the Australian Open twice. He defeated Roger Federer in the 2009 final and defeated Daniil Medvedev in 2022 for his 21st Grand Slam title.
