Australia won by 33 runs, knock England out of World Cup

Pat Cummins-led Australia dished out a superb performance and defeated England by 33 runs in the World Cup encounter in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

Batting first Australia piled a stiff 286 on the board and England could only manage 253 in response. The outcome also knocked England out of the World Cup.

Adam Zampa, who claimed three wickets and conceded just 21 runs in his full quota of overs, was named Player of the Match. Zampa also made vital contribution with the bat.

Mitchell Starc then injected double blow as England lost Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root cheaply in the 287 chase.

Ben Stokes and Dawid Malan then did some rebuilding but both departed after completing their respective half-centuries. Chris Woakes showed some late fight but didn't find much support from the other end.
