'I didn't remove Virat Kohli from captaincy': Sourav Ganguly

Former Indian captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has said that he didn't remove Virat Kohli from the captaincy.

Sourav Ganguly was BCCI president when Kohli quit T20I captaincy in November 2021 after the end of the T20 World Cup, and in December he was removed from ODI captaincy as well and Rohit Sharma was appointed as the new India captain.

Virat stepped down from the role of India's T20I captain and later was removed from the ODI captaincy. Many believed that Ganguly played a role in Kohli's exit from captaincy, but the former India captain has once again clarified his stance.

According to Sourav Ganguly, he didn't remove Kohli, and he revealed the reason behind Virat Kohli decision to step down as the white-ball captain.

I didn't remove Virat from the captaincy. I have said this lot of times. He was not interested in leading in T20Is.
Sourav Ganguly said on the reality show Dadagiri Season 10

I told him, if you're not interested in leading in T20Is, it's better if you step down from entire white-ball cricket. Let there be a white-ball captain and a red-ball captain.
