Ankita Dhyani showcased remarkable prowess at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tehran, Iran, clinching the silver medal in the fiercely contested 3000m event.

The Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, held on Monday, witnessed a display of exceptional athleticism as Yuma Yamamoto of Japan seized the gold with an impressive timing of 9:16:71, leaving Ankita securing the second position with a timing of 9:26:22.

Ankita's achievement adds another feather to the cap of Indian athletes at this prestigious championship. Among the contingent of 15 Indian athletes, comprising eight women and seven men, Ankita's performance stood out as a example to India's growing prominence in indoor athletics.

The championship, which commenced on Friday, has been a platform for athletes across the continent to exhibit their skills and determination. India's history at the championship reflects moments of triumph and resilience, with the nation ascending to the top of the medal tally in the 2008 edition held in Doha.

In the current edition, India has already made a significant mark by securing three gold medals. Notable contributors to India's gold haul include Harmilan Bains, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, and Jyothi Yarraji. Hurdler Jyothi Yarraji and ace shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor crushed their national records, while long-distance sensation Harmilan Bains sizzled on the track. Heading into the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, India have won 64 medals - 13 gold, 30 silver and 21 bronze at the continental meet. The People's Republic of China are the most successful team in the competition with 129 medals.
