India's star compound archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam shot a record 713 in the qualifying round of the Archery World Cup 2023 Stage 1 and equaled the world record in Antalya, Turkey on Tuesday.

Telangana's Jyothi, who won a silver medal at the World Championships two years ago, hit the best 10 points 66 times out of 72 including 36 times in a row and earned 6 points in the last 360 round of qualification. With this, she equaled the world record score set by Colombia's Sara Lopez in 2015 during the Colombian national selection event. Jyothi's stupendous efforts also broke Korea's So Chaewon's Asian record of 709. Chaewon set the record at the 2017 Asian Championships in Chavan, Dhaka. Moreover, Jyothi's stellar performance helped the Indian women's team, Avneet Kaur (19th with 699 points) and Aditi Goswami (15th with 700 points) top the qualifying round in the compound women's team event with a total of 2112 for the Archery World Cup 2023. Indian women were tied with Mexico but got the top billing for scoring more 10s or bull's eye. India scored 79 while Mexico had 72. The Indian women's compound team however has received a bye in the first round. They will begin their event in the quarter-finals.

India's men's compound archers, meanwhile, are seeded sixth for their team event with 2,121 points. Debutant Ojas Deotale was the top-ranking Indian of the Archery World Cup 2023 in 17th place with 709 points. Mathias Fullerton of Denmark led the qualification with 717 points. Rajat Chauhan was 29th and Prathamesh Jawkar came in 30th to make the Indian men's compound team. Rishabh Yadav, who finished 38th, will only compete in the individual event.

More than 390 archers from 52 countries will compete at the Archery World Cup 2023 Stage 1 in Antalya. The event will conclude on April 23.
