Commonwealth Games 2022: India Women's Fours team qualifies to the finals after defeating New Zealand

India Women's Fours team has defeated New Zealand in the semifinals of the Women's Fours event in the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Monday.

India Women's Fours team has defeated New Zealand by 16-13 in the semifinals of the Women's Fours event in Birmingham on Monday. They qualified for the finals and will bring at least a silver medal for India. This is the first medal in Lawn Bowls history which the ladies have confirmed in the Commonwealth Games 2022.

The Indian Fours- Lovely Choubey (lead), Pinki (second), Nayanmoni Saikia (third), and Rupa Rani Tirkey (skip) created history as this would be India's very first medal in the Lawn Bowls. They added a seventh medal to their medal tally. The women's fours team will play the Commonwealth Games 2022 finals against South Africa on Tuesday at 4:15 pm.

The women's team defeated New Zealand by a margin of 16-13. They started with a 0-5 trail in the semi-final. It kept its nerves and fought back to gain a 7-6 lead which eventually widened to 10-7. From that point, there was no looking back for India as they kept scoring points and won the match.

Earlier on Sunday, India's Lawn Bowls men's pairs team of Dinesh Kumar and Sunil Bahadur advanced to the quarterfinals. They defeated England in their Section C match.

"Now this is SPECIAL folks 1st ever medal assured for India in Lawn Bowls at CWG. The Indian quartet of Lovely, Pinky, Nayanmoni & Rupa Tirkey is through to the FINAL after beating New Zealand 16-13 in the Women's Fours event. Final tomorrow at 1615 hrs Vs SA," India All Sports tweeted.

Meanwhile, Ajay Singh finished fourth and won a bronze medal in the men's weightlifting 81kg category. Australia finished third and bagged silver. Whereas England's Chris Murray won the game as he lifted 325kg and bagged gold medals for his country.
