This is the fifth gold medal of Mckeon at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Earlier, she also won gold medals in 4x100m freestyle and 4x100m mixed relay. Her teammate Meg Harris took the silver and Shayna Jack took the bronze.

"I am proud. I don't really know what to say, the medals are rewarding obviously, it's what we train for. But for me the most rewarding thing this year is being able to keep myself together for the week, to be able to get up behind the blocks." McKeon said.

"Every time anyone gets behind the blocks, they're taking a risk, you're putting your heart on the line whether you succeed or fail. So just being able to get up every day and do that, I'm proud of myself for that." She added.

Macon's parents Ron and Susie are also former international swimmers. They were very proud to see their daughter creating history. Mckeon surpassed fellow Australian swimmers Ian Thorpe, Susie O'Neill and Leisel Jones for the most medals in Commonwealth Games History. She won four gold and two bronze at the 2014 Glasgow Games and also four gold and two bronze at the 2018 Gold Coast edition. The young swimmer is a five-time Olympic gold medalist too.
