India eligible to compete in all five medal events
India secured the team quotas by topping the rankings among the non-qualified nations to qualify in both the men's and women's categories. India will thus be eligible to compete in all five medal events (men's and women's teams, individual and mixed categories) in the Paris Olympics 2024.
Team quotas awarded to top two nations for the first time
In the men's category, India and China secured quotas on the basis of ranking, while in the women's category, Indonesia was the second country other than India to secure the quota.
At the Paris Olympics 2024, 12 countries will compete in team events while five teams will compete in mixed events. This is the first time that team quotas have been awarded to the top two nations finishing outside the three-stage Olympic qualifiers.
The first Olympic Qualifier was held during the World Archery Championships in Berlin last year from where South Korea, Turkey and Japan qualified in the men’s category; while Germany and Mexico secured their spots in the women’s division.
The second leg was a continental qualifier. Kazakhstan and South Korea took the men’s and women’s team quotas, respectively from the Asian leg, while Colombia and the United States made the cut from Pan America. From the European leg, Italy (men) and the Netherlands (women) secured quotas.
The final Olympic Qualifier was held in Antalya last week. Mexico, Chinese Taipei, and Great Britain in the men’s section; China, Malaysia, Great Britain and Chinese Taipei from the women’s section secured quotas from the Final Qualifier.
Tarundeep and Deepika's fourth Olympics
Experienced archers Tarundeep Rai and Deepika Kumari will challenge for the Olympics for a record fourth time.
Tarundeep, a 40-year-old army veteran, represented the country for the first time in the Athens Olympics in 2004. Whereas this will be Deepika's fourth consecutive Olympics. She participated in the Olympic Games for the first time in 2012 in London.
