Apart from the annual Asian and World Championships for various sports and the tennis Grand Slam, there are some big events scheduled in the India Sports Calendar 2023.
In January, the Men's Hockey World Cup 2023 will be held in Odisha. While the Asian Games, which were postponed last year due to coronavirus, will be held in Hangzhou, China in September. Although there will be no Indian participation in the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 in New Zealand and Australia, it will have participation in the Women's Football World Cup to be held in July-August.
The Indian men's football team, however, has qualified for the AFC Asian Cup 2023, which was to be held in China from June 16 to July 16. However, with a last-minute venue change to Qatar, the mega event could be moved to late 2023 or early 2024 to avoid summer temperatures in the Gulf region. On the other hand, PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth will be focus too in badminton, especially given India's historic Thomas Cup triumph in 2022. Indian track and field stars also did well in 2022 and the likes of Neeraj Chopra, Avinash Sable and Eldhose Paul will be eyeing another stellar year in 2023.
