Indiaโ€™s Parul Chaudhary won her first title of the season in the womenโ€™s 3000m steeplechase at the Track Night NYC 2023 athletics meet in New York on Friday.

The 28-year-old athlete, who has been training in the US, clocked 9:41.88 to win the race, more than three seconds off her personal best. Parul Chaudhary had clocked her personal best of 9:38.09 at the World Championships last year. Chaudhary had earlier this month set a new national record in womenโ€™s 5000m at the Sound Running Track Festival in Los Angeles. Parul Chaudhary also managed to comfortably breach the qualifying mark of 9:58.55s in the womenโ€™s 3000m steeplechase for the Asian Athletics Championships, to be held later this year.

The standing national record in the womenโ€™s 3000m steeplechase is 9:19.76, held by Lalita Babar. Parul Chaudharyโ€™s own personal best in the event is 9:38.09, more than three seconds better than her run on Friday. Parul Chaudhary and the other Indian athletes are currently training and competing in the USA.

Meanwhile, Indiaโ€™s Lili Das on Friday finished third in the womenโ€™s 1500m race at the World Athletics Continental Tour event, clocking 4:15.23. Alexina Teubel of the USA won the event with a timing of 4:07.68. While in the menโ€™s 1500m, Ajay Kumar Saroj clocked a time of 3:41.28 to finish eighth. Shankar Lal Swami, meanwhile, did not finish (DNF) the menโ€™s 3000m steeplechase.
