Neeraj Chopra wins gold in first competition in India in three years

Neeraj Chopra won the Gold medal at the AFI Federation Cup 2024 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar on Wednesday with a best throw of 82.27m. DP Manu won the silver medal with a best throw of 82.06m while Uttam Patil won the bronze medal with a 78.89m throw. 

The current Olympic and World Champion had a packed schedule and could not even go for training after arriving on the eve of the competition. The 26-year-old athlete did not have a great start to the competition and was placed in second place after three throws. 

However, Neeraj took the lead in the fourth attempt with an 82.27m throw. He did not take his last two attempts after DP Manu had settled for the silver medal after his last attempt. 

Neeraj recently competed at the Doha Diamond Lague and came second with a best throw of 88.36m as the missed the first place just by 2 cm.
