Usha, who narrowly missed out on becoming the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in the final of the 400 meters hurdles at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles, achieved another major feat, this time as a sports administrator. She was elected president unopposed in the election. For the first time since 1960, an Olympian has become the President of IOA.
Meanwhile, Supreme Court-appointed retired SC judge L Nageswara Rao supervised the elections. The elections were originally scheduled to be held in December 2021. Usha's election to the top post was finalized last month as she was the only candidate to file nomination for the post of president.
"Through the experiences of my journey, I know very well the value of this post. I feel the pain of an athlete and that of a coach. Above all, about the role of a true admin. I look forward to upholding the Olympic values and working with national and international sporting federations to ensure India propels forward in our quest of being a global sporting powerhouse!" After becoming the president, PT Usha said.

PT Usha's Records:
Simply put, PT Usha is a pioneer in herself. From reviving the nearly moribund Indian athletics in the 1980s with his performances in track events to holding the presidency of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), the country's apex sports body, the legend continues to inspire millions. 'Flying Angel' has won four gold and seven silver medals in the Asian Games. She has won medals in the 1982, 1986, 1990, and 1994 Asian Games as well. Apart from this, she has 14 gold, six silver, and three bronze medals in the Asian Championships.
