Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and world number eight HS Prannoy will lead a strong 20-member Indian team in the prestigious Badminton Asia Team Championships to be held in Shah Alam, Malaysia from February 13 to 19.

This Badminton Asia Team Championships is important for Indian badminton players as they aim to score important points in the race to qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024.

Sindhu, who will lead the women's squad, suffered a knee injury during the French Open last year and has been away from competitive badminton since then. Apart from Sindhu, 16-year-old senior national champion Anmol Kharb, Asian Junior Championship medalist Tanvi Sharma and Asmita Chahila have got a place in the Indian team in the women's category.

On the other hand, World Championship medalist HS Prannoy will lead the men's team which also includes Commonwealth Games gold medalist Lakshya Sen and former world number one Kidambi Srikanth. Notably, Lakshya's elder brother Chirag Sen, who won the Senior National Championship in Guwahati last month, has also been included in the team.

Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who helped the Indian team win a historic bronze medal in the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship 2023 in Dubai last year, have got a place in the women's doubles. Guwahati Masters champion pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto, senior national champion pair of Priya Devi Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra is also a part of the team.

Former world number one pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who won six titles in 2023, including gold medals at the Asian Games and Asian Championships, will take over the responsibility in men's doubles. Senior national champion pair of Suraj Goala and Pruthvi Roy and the pair of Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun have also got a place in the team.

The Indian men's team has previously won bronze medals in the Badminton Asia Team Championships in 2016 and 2018.
