BWF World Rankings: Satwik-Chirag pair gets career-best fifth ranking

Indian men's doubles badminton pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty jumped two spots to a career-best world No. 5 ranking in the latest BWF World Rankings released on Tuesday.

The pair of Satwik and Chirag produced a stellar performance this year, winning two World Tour titles in the form of the Indian Open Super 500 and the French Open Super 750. Since then they have not dropped out of the top 10 rankings. The pair also won a gold medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal at the World Championships. The effect of this success has also been reflected in the rankings of both of them and the pair has reached the fifth position with the gain of two places. The Indian pair has 75,806 rating points from 15 tournaments.

Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen fell to world No. 7 but remained India's top-ranked player in the men's singles category. On the other hand, H.S. Prannoy, who registered a win against world No. 1 Viktor Axelsen in the BWF World Tour Finals, entered the top 10 for the first time in four years. He is now at No. 9 in the latest rankings. While former world championship silver medalist Kidambi Srikanth is at 11th position in the latest BWF World Rankings. However, no other Indian men's singles player is in the top 30.

On the other hand, in women's singles, two-time Olympic medalist P.V. Sindhu, who has been out of action due to injury since winning the gold in the Commonwealth Games 2022, is ranked sixth. London 2012 bronze medalist Saina Nehwal is at world number 33, one place below Malavika Bansod. While Aakarshi Kashyap is at number 35.

In women's doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand ranked world number 18. At the same time, Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy are at No. 24. In mixed doubles, Tanisha Crasto and Ishaan Bhatnagar have moved up three places. They are now at 21st position.
