The Badminton World Federation (BWF), confirmed on Tuesday that India will host the 2026 World Badminton Championship for the second time since 2009.

It's coming home for India in Badminton for the second time since 2009. To clarify, Badminton World Federation (BWF), announced India as the host for the 2026 World Badminton Championship. This will only be the second time that India will be hosting the world championship. Previously, Hyderabad had played host to the prestigious event in 2009. India will host the 2026 World Badminton Championship

India was scheduled to organise the Sudirman Cup in 2023. However, the Badminton World Federation decided to award the hosting rights of the world mixed team championships to China.

Due to the ongoing Global pandemic in China, the BWF decided to shift this year's Sudirman Cup to Finland. Before the Pandemic struck Suzhou, China was the host of this year's Sudirman Cup. However, now Vantaa, Finland will host the upcoming edition of the tournament.

"Suzhou will now stage the 2023 edition of the BWF World Mixed Team Championships, with original 2023 hosts India accepting the opportunity to host the BWF World Championships in 2026"

Badminton World Federation (BWF) said in a media release

"Staging a tournament of the stature of World Championships is a great achievement for us at Badminton Association of India as well as for the country," Badminton Association of India (BAI) president Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
