Indian Badminton News: India Open badminton upgraded to BWF Super 750 tournament

According to latest Indian Badminton News, The Badminton World Federation (BWF) decided to upgrade the India Open Super 500 event to Super 750 event. The new rule will take place from 2023 season.

The BWF World Tour Finals includes Super 1000, Super 750 and Super 500 tournament, Which means the players will get more ranking points and more prize money. The number of event will increase from 27 to 31, including the season ending BWF World Tour Finals.

Lakshya Sen, who was the former World Junior No-1, had won the 2022 India Open Men's Singles title as he defeated Singapore's reigning world champion Loh Kean Yew in the final during the omicron situation in New Delhi.

 BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund said in a statement, "More tournaments give us a fantastic opportunity to enhance the sport's reach around the world, not only in established territories but into new ones as well,". He also added "It also allows for more players to enter our elite circuit and gain valuable experience,".

India Open's upgraded status will bring more opportunities for badminton in India. Apart from these, The BWF had also approved two International Challenger tournaments in India's Nagpur and Raipur in September 2022.

A short brief of the BWF World Tour 2023-2026 badminton calendar :

In the BWF World Tour's top-tier Super 1000 events, The Malaysia Open will upgrade to join The All England Open, China Open and Indonesia Open.

Similarly, The India Open and Singapore open will join the events in China, Denmark, France and Japan in the super 750 Events.

Four new additional tournaments will take place in the Super 500 Event. These 4 tournaments will organise in Australia, Canada, Finland and Japan.

Remaining events in Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand will go with their previous status.

The HYLO Open and Orléans Masterse will join the Super 300 level.
