India's Priyanshu Rajawat advanced to the second round of the Korea Open 2023 Super 500 badminton tournament. He defeated local player Choi Ji Hoon in straight games in the men's singles event on Wednesday. Orleans Masters winner Rajawat, world No. 32, beat Choi 21-15, 21-19 in 42 minutes. Priyanshu will next face top seed Kodai Naraoka of Japan in the round of 16 bout.
While another failure came for PV Sindhu as her journey in the Korea Open 2023 ended with a first-round defeat to Pai Yu Po of Chinese Taipei. Sindhu lost 18-21, 21-10, 13-21 to the Taiwanese player in 58 minutes. This was also Sindhu's sixth exit in round one of a tournament in a total of 13 played this year. Moreover, Sindhu dropped to World No. 17, the lowest ranking since January 2013.
At the same time, Kiran George could not cross the first-round hurdle. He lost to Wang Tzu wei of Chinese Taipei 17-21 9-21. While B Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa also lost to the Korean pair of Song hyun Cho and Lee Jung Hyun in the first round of mixed doubles 21-23, 21-13, 12-21.
