Satwik, who recently won the Indonesia Open Super 1000 title with Chirag Shetty, also broke the more than a-decade-old record of 493 km/h set by Malaysia's Tan Boon Heong in May 2013. Satwik's smash was faster than the fastest speed of 372.6 km/h achieved by a Formula 1 car. While Malaysia's Tan Pearly recorded the fastest badminton shot in the women's section. She shot at a speed of 438 km/h.

The world record for the fastest badminton shot was set on 14 April 2023. The official judges of Guinness World Records confirmed the record based on the speed measurement results of that day. According to Yonex, a high-speed camera captured the moments of impact in the actual smash. While the photographic recording calculated the instant velocity of the shuttlecock after the impact. Rankireddy used a Yonex Nanoflare 1000 Z racquet for the record-breaking shot.

"Yonex is proud to announce that Yonex badminton athletes, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy (IND) and Tan Pearly (MAS), have set new Guinness world records title for the fastest male and female badminton hits. Since the previous Guinness world records title for the fastest badminton hit was recorded in May 2013, this means that Rankireddy broke the record for the first time in more than a decade." the Japanese sports equipment manufacturing company said in a release.

Satwik and his doubles partner Chirag Shetty will be in action at the Korea Open, this week. As of now, they are India's main medal contender for an Olympic medal in Paris next year.
