The Korean Pair defeated Treesa and Gayatri 21-10, 21-10 in straight games in 46 minutes. The Indians' attacking nous crumbled against the impenetrable defense of the Koreans. The first game lasted 20 minutes followed by 26 mins long second game.
Despite the loss, Treesa and Gayatri can be proud of their performance in the Yonex All England Open 2023. They played some excellent badminton throughout the tournament, winning all their matches leading up to the semifinals. The Indian pair defeated China's Li Wen Mei and Liu Xuan Xuan in the quarterfinals to make it to the semifinals. Prior to their win on Friday, the world number 17 pair had staged an upset. They took down Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota 21-14, 24-22 in a second-round contest. In the first round, they had stunned Thailand's, Jongkolphan Kitiiharakul and Rawinda Prajongai.
Moreover, it's the second time Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have made it into the semifinals of the prestigious tournament having earlier done so last year. But last time they were also late entrants into the main draw. In their run-up to the last four, the world's 17th-ranked pair has stunned two opponents who featured in the top 10 of BWF world rankings.
The loss of Treesa-Gayatri today means that India's campaign came to an end point in the Yonex All India Open 2023. Earlier, Lakshya Sen couldn't find his touch against Anders Antonsen, going down 13-21, 15-21 in 52 minutes. The Dane had gone down in straight games at the same stage to the Indian in 2022, where he was the third seed. He avenged that defeat with a comprehensive display, not letting the Indian find his rhythm. The second-round exit means Sen will lose ranking points and slip further in the BWF charts.
