Bengal Cricket: 20-year old Dhiman Mondal scores 14-ball fifty, now wants to play first-division cricket

Dhiman Mondal, 20-year old batter scored fifty in just 14 balls in the N.C. Chatterjee Memorial Tournament in Bengal cricket.

Dhiman Mondal playing for Abasar Club hit a fifty in just 14 balls in the N.C Chatterjee Trophy (2nd Division T20 Trounamnet of Bengal Cricket). The 20-year old right-hander was eventually knocked over by Ibrahim Ali Shaikh. But, till then Dhiman had done his job scoring 61 off 20 balls. His inning was full of power and brutality as he hit 7 sixes and 3 fours in those 20 balls. Abasar won the match by 13 runs against Young Bengal. However, they have not qualified for the next round of the tournament.

Dhiman already has won 3 Man of the Match awards for his performances in the Kolkata Division cricket this season. He had scored a stunning 113 off 108 balls against Ballygaunge Sporting Association earlier this season.

Generally, a middle-order batter Dhiman idolises Virender Sehwag when it comes to batting. "Sehwag is my favourite player. I love the way he used to bat fearlessly," Dhiman said after scoring one of the quickest fifties of this season in Bengal cricket.

"I think my ability to score quickly and hit sixes is my strength. There are obviously some other aspects to my game as well, but hitting sixes is my favourite," Dhiman sounded thrilled talking about sending the ball out of the park.

Dhiman has already spent 4 years in second division cricket and now wants to move on to the next level in Bengal cricket; the first division. "There are many players like me who are playing in the first-division cricket. I would love to get an opportunity to play at that level and perform. I think I have the ability to do well at that level as well. Moreover, I will get to learn from the best of Bengal cricket as well," Dhiman added.

In 2018, Dhiman had scored a 47 ball hundred in his first year at the second-division level. Many were enthralled by his ability to clear boundaries at will. Even in this year's one-day tournament, Dhiman has scored a 75-ball 115 against CCD which speak volume for his wide range of batsmanship as well.

Including league, One-day and T20 formats, the young dasher has scored 514 runs in just 11 innings with a strike rate of 119.26. Moreover, he has a batting average of 51.40. Dhiman has hit 41 sixes while scoring those runs.
