In the ongoing CAB 1st Division Qualifier Quarter-final match between Paikpara Sporting and Bhawanipore Club, Bhawanipore finished the first day with 405 on the board. All credit goes to an in-form Koushik Ghosh and team skipper Sandipan Das' 295 run partnership for the 3rd wicket. It was Paikpara who won the toss and decided to bowl first on a pitch that looked solid to bat on. But, it was Sandipan Das who won everyone's heart by scoring a magnificent hundred even with a hamstring cramp. Along with him, it was Koushik Gosh, the comeback man of Bengal Cricket who scored his fourth ton of the season to make it tough for Paikpara to come back.

Paikpara, although was able to strike early. Sumon Pashi, the left-arm pacer gave the early breakthrough for them. Sumon sent back dangerous-looking Abishek Das and Shubhrajit Das as Bhawanipore got stuck at 70/2.

Then it was Sandipan Das and Koushik Ghosh who saw the team through to lunch. Then through to tea. And then nearly through to the end of day 1. Both the batters looked solid as both of them completed their fifties with great intensity.

However, after lunch, Sandipan started having cramps in his leg but decided to continue with the pain. He was nearly batting on 70 and wanted to continue as he was nearing a hundred. Few clean hits over the mid-wicket, few paddle sweeps and soon Sandipan reached his elusive ton. It was staggering to see how he continued to bat on with his pain even in this extreme heat.

Then it was Koushik Gosh's turn to raise the bat. The southpaw brought his fourth ton of the season, which takes him top of the list in terms of runs scored in the tournament. Koushik celebrated his return to first-class cricket with this 155-ball ton.

Both of the continued to bat on with ultimate ease as Paikpara bowlers were not able to trouble them. With only 5 runs away from a 300-run partnership, Koushik departed while trying to flick the ball towards mid-wicket. He could only manage a leading-edge which provided a caught and bowled opportunity to Aditya Yadav. Meanwhile, Sandipan completed his 150 in just 179 balls to thrash Paikpara's chance to win it from here on.

Bhawanipore ended the day with 405/3 on board. Sandipan is still not out on 180 and will continue batting tomorrow.
