Bengal will be looking for their maiden Senior Women's T20 title tomorrow against the Railways. They have played two finals before but were handed defeats by the Railways team in the 2011 and 2019 seasons. However, that era of Railways might be over now as former India cricketer Gargi Banerjee feels Bengal will be taking the field as the better team tomorrow in the final. Moreover, she believes Deepti Sharma will be the key player in the final as well.
Rain has played quite a part in this season's Senior Women's T20 Trophy and can play a role in the final as well. Although Gargi Banerjee feels Bengal should continue to play the way they have been playing and not think about the rain that much. In fact, she feels if it rains, the condition will suit the bowlers and Bengal will have the upper hand with the way they are bowling.
In that case, the Bengal batters' performance will be the key for them. "If Bengal bats first they should look for 150. And, if Railways bat first, Bengal must contain them under 120," Gargi Banerjee said in an exclusive interview with Sportz Point.
"Deepti's performance with the bat will be key for Bengal. She has been exceptional with the ball and on the field. If she can do well with the bat in the final, Bengal will give a fight to Railways," Gargi Banerjee added.
Although Railways is always the team to beat in domestic cricket in India, this season Bengal has emerged as one of the favourites with Richa Ghosh, Sukanya Parida, Saiqa Ishaque, Mita Paul and Dhara Gujjar along with others doing well. Specially Bengal's bowling has been on the mark with Sukanya, Saiqa and Gouher Sultana doing all the tricks.
"Sukanya has been a wicket-taker in this tournament. Saiqa and Gouher have done well with the ball as well. And, obviously, Deepti has been fantastic too. So, if they can be accurate like all the previous matches, Bengal can create problems for the Railways," Gargi Banerjee added.
But the former Indian cricketer believes fielding will be the major part that can make the difference in the final. "Fielding will be very important in games like a final. If Bengal can control boundaries and stop the run flow, they will be in a good position. My best wishes with the Bengal team for the final," she expressed.
