MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja's late blows along with Shivam Dube's innings helped Chennai Super Kings recover to a score of 167/8 in their 20 overs. DC never really recovered and ended up losing the match by 27 runs. They lost David Warner and Phil Salt early while Mitchell Marsh fell after a mix-up with Manish Pandey. Pandey and the dangerous Rilee Rossouw tried building something but they ended up putting together a sluggish partnership that shot up the required rate for DC. Delhi ended up being limited to a score of 140/8 and remained at the bottom of the table. Read the match report of the CSK vs DC clash and share your thoughts in the comments.
Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to bat first. Gaikwad & Conway came into the middle to start the proceedings. Gaikwad once again started brilliantly. Conway couldn't construct his inning today and lost his wicket after scoring 10 runs. Axar Patel gave the early breakthrough in the 5th over. His wicket brought Rahane into the crease who started slowly but CSK conceded another blow as Axar Patel struck for the second time. Gaikwad went to the dugout after scoring 24 runs. He had a brilliant start but failed to extend completely.
Delhi completely restricted the run flow of CSK and they lost another wicket in the 10th over. Moeen Ali departed after another poor performance with the bat. Chennai continued losing wickets as Rahane (21) also went to the dugout in the 12th over. It was Shivam Dube (25) who helped to pull CSK from the mud. He smashed 3 massive sixes which helped to boost the run rate a little bit. Raydu scored 23 runs but it wasn't quick. Eventually, CSK lost both wickets under only 13 runs. Jadeja & Dhoni took responsibility to put up a decent total and they did that perfectly.
Dhoni struck 2 massive sixes while Jadeja smashed a single six. Chennai gathered 41 runs in the last 22 deliveries as they put up a total of 167 runs after losing 8 wickets. MS Dhoni scored 20 runs in only 9 deliveries while Jadeja made 21 runs. Mitchell Marsh was the best bowler for DC as he picked up 3 wickets.
Warner & Salt came down to chase the total. Deepak Chahar started with the new ball and got rid of Warner in the very second delivery. Salt who performed really well in the last match, started decent in this one. Chahar was in a mood as he didn't take long and dismissed Salt for 17 runs. Mitchell Marsh got run out in the 4th over as Chennai had it under control.
Manish Pandey & Rossouw built a partnership but Chennai bowled brilliantly in the middle overs and didn't give the batters any opportunities to score boundaries. Manish & Rossouw added 59 runs for the 4th wicket but took the same amount of deliveries which affected the run rate big time. Pathirana and Jadeja dismissed them and secured the victory. Axar Patel smashed some boundaries but it was too late to change something.
CSK bowlers performed brilliantly and restricted Delhi from chasing the target. Lalit Yadav also tried in the end but CSK did their job already in the middle overs which cost Delhi a huge defeat. It may be the end of their hopes for the playoffs this season.
