Team News
Chennai Super Kings
Five-time champions CSK had put more emphasis on picking spinners in the mega auction held last year for IPL 2025. Chennai has good spinners in the form of Ravichandran Ashwin, Noor Ahmad, Shreyas Gopal, Deepak Hooda and Ravindra Jadeja.
There were indications during CSK's pre-season training camp that spinners could play a big role at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium. The Chennai team will leave no stone unturned to make full use of this strength against Mumbai.
Once again, all eyes will be on Mahendra Singh Dhoni who has been associated with this team since the inception of IPL in 2008.
There is healthy competition for the opening pair in Chennai. New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra is set to open the innings with team captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Indian batsmen like Rahul Tripathi, Shivam Dubey, Deepak Hooda will take charge of the middle order, while Dhoni and Jadeja will come after that.
Mumbai Indians
As far as Mumbai is concerned, they will miss the Indian team's fast bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah a lot, who is in the process of making a comeback after recovering from injury. Bumrah's playing in the initial phase of the IPL is doubtful and it will be difficult for Mumbai to replace him.
Mumbai's regular captain Hardik Pandya will also not be able to play in the match against Chennai. He has been banned for one match for slow over rate in the last match of the league stage last year.
However, Mumbai's team has many good leaders and in the first match, it will be led by Suryakumar Yadav who is also the captain of the Indian T20I team.
