Former Australian cricketer Rod Marsh passes away at 74

The cricket world lost a legend as former Australian wicketkeeper Rod Marsh passed away on Friday aged 74. Marsh had suffered a massive heart attack in Queensland last week. Meanwhile, he was in an induced coma at the Royal Adelaide Hospital until his death.



The Australia great played 96 Tests for his country. However, in which he scored three Test centuries and famously claiming a then-world record of 355 dismissals for a wicketkeeper behind the stumps. Marsh has also played 92 one-day international matches.

"Rod will be forever remembered for the way he played the game. The pleasure he brought crowds as a member of some great Australian teams. Rod also made an enormous contribution to the game by identifying, coaching, and mentoring many future stars."

Remembering Marsh, the incumbent Australian Test skipper Pat Cummins said, "Rod was a colossal figure in Australian cricket who gave close to 50 years of incredible service to Australian cricket, from his debut in the Ashes series of 1970/71, through to his time as National Selector, when many of the current group of Australian men's players came into close contact with him."

A look at Rod Marsh's international career

Marsh made his international debut in November 1970. In a career that spanned nearly 13 years, Marsh scored 3,633 runs from 96 Tests at an average of 26.51. The tally includes three centuries and 16 fifties. Marsh also had 1,225 runs to his name in the format. As a wicket-keeper, he registered 355 dismissals(4th most) in Tests and 124 dismissals in ODI cricket. He has recorded a maximum of six dismissals in a Test inning.
