Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new Indian cricket team's head coach. BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed on social media on Wednesday. The former India cricketer will replace Rahul Dravid who recently won the T20 World Cup 2024 title with the team. Gambhir led Kolkata Knight Riders to their first IPL title as the mentor after 10 years.

Dravid served in the role from November 2022 to June 2024 and stepped down after India's T20 World Cup 2024 campaign in the USA and West Indies. Under Dravid, India reached the final of the ICC World Test Championship and the 50-over World Cup in 2023, and won the T20 World Cup in 2024.
Gambhir served as a mentor in multiple IPL teams, including Kolkata Knight Riders, who won the title this year. As a player, he has been a part of India's World Cup-winning campaigns in 2007 and 2011.
Earlier, Jay Shah also posted a message for Rahul Dravid who ended his tenure by winning the T20 World Cup 2024.
