Delhi Capitals produced a strong response after adding just 130/8 in 20 overs against Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 clash in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. The visitors removed Wriddhiman Saha for 0, then got rid of Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar in quick intervals. Hardik Pandya and Abhinav Manohar took charge but struggled to find the boundaries. Earlier, Mohammed Shami rocked the Delhi top-order, who lost half their side in the first five overs. Shami scalped four wickets and gave just 11 runs in his full quota. Axar Patel and Aman Khan showed some resistance and added 50-run for the sixth wicket before Mohit Sharma packed Axar for 27(30). A fairytale start from GT

Delhi Capitals won the toss & decided to bat first. Salt & Warner started the proceedings with the bat while Shami led the bowling attack of Gujarat. Mohammed Shami recorded one of the best Powerplay bowling performances in the history of IPL. He picked four wickets as DC lost half their side in their IPL 2023 match against GT in Ahmedabad.

Shami struck in the very first ball of the match to get rid of Phil Salt, who was caught by David Miller at cover. Skipper David Warner was the next to depart, having been run out at the strikers' end. He then struck again in the fifth ball of the third over, removing Rilee Rossouw who was edged and caught by wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha. Shami continued running riot, removing Manish Pandey and Priyam Garg in the same over. Aman Khan finished the powerplay with a boundary against Josh Little as DC only managed to accumulate 28-5 in six overs.

DC managed to improve their situation with a healthy partnership between Axar Patel & Aman Hakim Khan

Shami completed his quota and he was driven for a four by Axar Patel in his final over. DC reached 32/5 after 7 overs. Shami conceded 11 runs and scalped four wickets to complete his spell. Rashid Khan came to bowl his second over and this time Axar Patel targetted the spinner and dispatched him for a six straight over the bowler's head. David Miller chased it but he wasn't able to stop the ball from reaching the fence. 10 runs came off the over as DC reached 54-5 after 10 overs.

Mohit Sharma piled more miseries on Delhi Capitals as Axar Patel fell for 27(30). He attempted a lofted drive but didn't get the desired timing. The ball ended in the safe hand of Rashid Khan at long-off. DC lost their sixth wicket after a partnership of 50 runs between Axar & Aman. Ripal Patel smashed Josh Little for two boundaries, while Aman Khan also managed to score one as 16 runs came off the 17th over. Delhi got past 100 runs after a poor start. Mohit Sharma continued from the other end. Aman Khan smashed a six and completed his half-century.

Rashid Khan removed Aman Khan in the 19th over after he mistimed his shot and was caught by Abhinav Manohar at deep. The batter fell for 51(44) after smashing 3 sixes & 3 fours. Mohit Sharma bowled an excellent final over as three runs and a wicket came off it. Ripal Patel was the final batter to depart and he chipped in with 13-ball 23. For the bowling department of GT, Mohit got 2 wickets while Rashid Khan got away with a crucial wicket at the end. Shami was the best among the others with 4 wickets to his name. Delhi put in a decent and respectable total of 130 runs after a very poor start.

A dreadful start from Gujarat Titans

Wriddhiman Saha & Shubman Gill opened to chase the total but Delhi's bowling department got off to a brilliant start. Khaleel Ahmed gave the early breakthrough in the first over as he dismissed Wriddhiman Saha for a duck. Anrich Nortje then sent Gill home for 6 runs in the 4th over. Ishant Sharma gave another blow by picking up Vijay Shankar for 6 runs in the fifth over. Gujarat only managed to score 31 runs in the powerplay.

Kuldeep Yadav then dismissed David Miller for a duck in the seventh over. Axar Patel dropped it short and Abhinav Manohar smashed a six over the mid-wicket region as Gujarat reached 49 runs in the 10 overs. Hardik Pandya smashed a full delivery by Kuldeep Yadav towards long-on and brought up his half-century. He reached the milestone in 44 balls. Khaleel Ahmed reintroduced himself in the attack and he struck in the first ball. Abhinav Manohar (26) was looking for big hits. He mistimed his shot and Aman Khan took the catch at the long-on fence.

GT vs DC: Ishant Sharma's final over helped Delhi to get a positive result from the clash

21 runs came off the 19th over as GT reached 119-5 in 19 overs. They needed 12 runs in 6 balls to win the match. Ishant Sharma came to bowl the final over and conceded a double in the first ball. The second ball was hit for a single by Hardik. The third delivery was a dot before Ishan got the wicket for Tewatia in the fourth ball. He was caught by Rossouw for 20(7). Rashid Khan joined the chase as GT needed 9 in the final two balls but they could only manage 125/6 in 20 overs and lost the contest by 5 runs. Ishant Sharma's brilliant final over kept Delhi Capitals alive in IPL 2023.
