Gujarat Titans names Shubman Gill as captain to lead the team ahead of the IPL 2024

Gujarat Titans on Monday announced Shubman Gill as the captain for the IPL 2024. Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya will be seen playing for Mumbai Indians as he has left the Gujarat franchise after two successful seasons. The team made its official announcement through social media on Monday.

Shubman Gill was the highest run-scorer in IPL 2023. He had scored 890 runs in 7 matches at an average of 59.33. The 24-year-old made his IPL debut in the year 2018. He has scored a total of 2790 runs in 91 matches so far. Gill is also currently fifth on the list of top run-scorers in the tournament in the last six years behind KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis.

Shubman Gill will be leading a team in IPl 2024 which has an unparalleled combination of experience and youthful exuberance like Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan, David Miller, Matthew Wade and Wriddhiman Saha, which has been the hallmark of the Gujarat Titans. Gill also has some captaincy experience, having previously led Indian domestic sides in the Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy.

Gujarat Titans team entered IPL for the first time in the 2022 season. The team achieved the distinction of becoming champion in the first season itself under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya. Gujarat team also reached the finals in the 2023 season, where it had to face defeat by Chennai Super Kings. Despite so much success, the departure of Gujarat team and Pandya is surprising the fans and cricket experts.

Hardik Pandya has proved his captaincy ability in the last two seasons of IPL. Besides, he is also being seen as the next regular captain of India's white ball team. It is believed that Mumbai Indians can make Hardik the captain of the team for IPL 2024 season. However, the decision to snatch the captaincy from Rohit Sharma will not be easy. Rohit has made Mumbai champion five times. His captaincy has also been highly praised in the recently concluded ODI World Cup.
