"He's been deprived. What is his fault? I am very sad. I am really shocked. Sourav is a very popular personality. He was the captain of the Indian team, gave a lot to the country. He is not only the pride of Bengal but the pride of India. Why was he excluded in such an unfair way? My humble regards to the PM. Please take care that Sourav Ganguly is must be allowed to contest the ICC election."

In the matter, Suvendu Adhikari retaliated against Mamata. He said that if Mamata Banerjee wanted to extend the tenure of Sourav Ganguly, she should have made him the brand ambassador of West Bengal. On the other hand, speaking at an event on his plans for the post, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that he has been an administrator for a long time and now wants to do something else.

"A court had cleared the way for a second term for Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah. But don't know why, Amit Shah's son stays. I have nothing against him, but why leave out Sourav? The way he was unfairly left out, the only compensation is ICC. Others have gone from BCCI to ICC," Ms. Banerjee said.

However, Sourav Ganguly is the outgoing chief of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He can again return to the post of the President of his state unit Bengal Cricket Association (CAB). The former India captain on Saturday said that he will contest the CAB elections. In fact, Ganguly had to step down from the post of BCCI President as no one in the board has held this post for more than 3 years so far. He was the CAB President for 4 years between 2015 and 2019 before becoming the BCCI President.

In such a situation, it is also being speculated that Ganguly can apply for the post of ICC President. The tenure of current ICC President Greg Barclay ends in November.
