The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the side while Smriti Mandhana was made the vice-captain.
India will be eying to win their first-ever Women's T20 World Cup when they take on the field in UAE in the upcoming marquee tournament. India's campaign will start on October 4 against New Zealand and face Pakistan two days later. India are in Group A along with Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Pooja Vastrakar, and Renuka Singh Thakur will be a few of the senior cricketers in the squad while players like Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Richa Ghosh and Dayalan Hemalatha will the youngsters to watch out for in the tournament.
Asha Shobana was named in the squad after her impressive WPL 2024, followed by a solid debut series against Bangladesh and impressive performances against South Africa in the home series earlier this year. Shreyanka Patil and Yastika Bhatia were also named in the squad but are subjected to clear their fitness before the tournament.
