Sri Lankan mystery spinner Jeffrey Vandersay became the only fifth Sri Lankan bowler to take six wickets in an inning in ODI cricket against India on Sunday in Colombo. Jeffrey Vandersay joined bowlers like Muthiah Muralidaran to join the elite list. Muthiah Muralidaran was the first Sri Lankan bowler to take six wickets against India in an ODI inning.
Jeffrey Vandersay first dismissed Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who tried to go for a reverse sweep and was caught at backward point by Pathum Nissanka after a solid 64 from 44 balls. Then, he got rid of Shubman Gill, who went for a big drive and only managed to knick the ball to first sleep where Kaminu Mendis took a screamer to give him the second wicket.
In the same over, he trapped Shivam Dube in front of the wicket who could not understand the variation and missed the ball completely. Virat Kohli found it hard to judge the spin of the ball in his next over and Jeffrey Vandersay had his fourth wicket soon.
Shreyas Iyer was his fifth strike and then clean bowled KL Rahul to get this sixth. With the wicket of KL Rahul, he joined the elite list of Sri Lankan bowlers to take six wickets in an inning against India in ODIs.
