The much anticipated India- Bangladesh test series will kick off this Thursday morning. The test series should have got a label as Rishabh Pant's comecack in the whites. However, it is the political unrest in the neighbour's land that shoock the internet with rage. Amidst the onging protest regarding the minority safety issues in Bangalesh, X (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms are boiling with the hashtag, "Boycott Bangladesh."
The outcry has reached to that serious peak, that it is having an underlying urge to cancel the series itself.
Political turmoil in Bangladesh igniting Extremism in India
Since the fall of Hasina Government, the theats on minorities in Bangladesh have increased. As per reports, Hindu communities in around 278 locations accross 48 disctrics have got threats. Protests outbursted in diifferent corners, especially in Dhaka and Chattogram, seeking security. A number of temples and have been demolished, and lives have been targetted, leading to the outburst of Hindus, not only in Bangladesh but in India too.
In the midst of all this, the eve of the India vs Bangladesh Series saw a virtual outburst of "anger." Social media is flooded with hashtags. Not only that, the Hindu Mahaseva has added fuel to the protest, asking the Prime Minister to shuffle the venue for the upcoming matches.
Dr. Jaiveer Bhardwaj, the vice president of Hindu Mahaseva has approached Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reschedule the T20 match on october 6. Gwalior's Madhavrao Scindia International Cricket Stadium is supposed to host the match. However, Bhardwaj has urged to shift the match,warning about possible outcomes of the members's rage. This may include damaging the venue as well.
BCCI's Stand: Promoting Sports as a Unifying Force
Various reports came out under the name of BCCI, where the later, as said, has agrred to the terms and conditions of the agitators. However, BCCI took the peaceful stand, with a much positive approach. The board has made it clear, that no desiring changes will be made for the India vs Bangladesh series, in both test and T20Is.
BCCI vowed of portraying sport as the flagbearer of unity and peace. However, the board will closely monitor the series, and will be well prepared for any unpleasant circumstances.
