Rohit Sharma sustained a left hamstring injury during a net session before the India tour of South Africa. As a result, he could not play in the 3-match Test series of India vs West Indies. But the good news is that he is recovering properly and is in a good state now. He might even join the squad for the 6-match limited-overs series.

The Indian white-ball captain was supposed to skip the ODI series of India vs West Indies as well as he was unable to attain full fitness before the announcement of the team. According to BCCI, all the players need to appear for fitness tests at NCA before being getting to play in the squad. A BCCI source shared with PTI on conditions, "Rohit's rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) is going pretty well. He is expected to be okay for the West Indies series. It's still close to 3 weeks from now before the first ODI is played in Ahmedabad on February 6."

Who will be the next Test captain?

Virat Kohli stepped down as the captain of the Indian test team right after the test series against the Proteas. There is a huge chance of Rohit Sharma becoming the captain of the team in all formats. Therefore, it is a mandate for him to stay fit for the upcoming matches. Even KL Rahul is in the line alongside Rohit. He is now leading the team in the ODI series. A senior BCCI official said, "Rohit Sharma should be the bridge before BCCI is confident about the next young India captain that they want the team to lead for at least five years. This ICC World Test Championship cycle should be about giving it to an experienced hand rather than someone, whose leadership credentials aren't proof enough."
