The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced the postponement of the knockout stage matches of the Cooch Behar Trophy following some positive Covid-19 cases within the team environment. The knockout matches are scheduled to be held in Pune has put on hold until further notice. The BCCI had conducted 93 matches across 20 venues on the league stage. The Board will continue to monitor the situation and identify a new window once the situation improves.

The eight teams to have qualified for the Cooch Behar Trophy knockouts are Mumbai, Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and Bengal. They were yet to play four-day knockout games starting Tuesday.

"Keeping everyone's health and safety in mind, the knockout matches to be held in Pune have been put on hold until further notice. The BCCI had conducted 93 matches across 20 venues in the league stage. The Board will continue to monitor the situation and identify a new window once the situation improves."

The BCCI is hopeful of completing the knockouts of the tournament, once the covid situation improves in the country. "Once the caseload again goes down and the situation improves. Then we will lock in a new window and resume the knockout leg of the tournament. Let's hope we get over this phase quickly and resume our domestic cricket operations once again with full gusto. On January 5, the BCCI had postponed all the tournaments in domestic cricket after a nationwide surge in coronavirus cases. Meanwhile, only the Cooch Behar trophy's knockout stage matches were excluded till yesterday. Last Friday it had emerged that as many as 15 members of the MCA's staff and three staffers in the BCCI's office had tested positive for Covid-19.
