The Boxing Day Test is a cricket tradition that is played on December 26 every year. It is now celebrated in various countries. In 1950, Australia and England played the first Boxing Day Test. India's Record in Boxing Day Test Matches
India's first Boxing Day Test match was against Australia at MCG in 1985. The match ended in a draw. Greg Matthews (100) and Allan Border (163) scored impressive centuries for the Aussies while Ravi Shastri claimed eight wickets for India.
India's first Test loss came in 1991 in this prominent fixture. They lost to Australia by eight wickets. It took India 25 years to register their first-ever win in a Boxing Day Test match which came in Durban in 2010 when they beat South Africa by 87 runs.
Team India have been brilliant in their last three test matches which started on December 26, winning all of them. They beat Australia by 137 runs in 2018. Rahane then led Team India to an iconic victory at the MCG in 2020. India's most recent Boxing Day encounter was against the Proteas in Centurion in 2021. The visitors registered a famous win by 113.
