Last night was definitely one of the most entertaining and thrilling nights of IPL 2021. Two very important matches took place at the same time in Sheikh Zayed Stadium and Dubai International Stadium. While the match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad made the key decision of which team is about to enter the playoffs, the other match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi capitals was all about increasing the points and NRR and securing their position at the top of the table. We are just 3 matches away from the mega final of IPL 2021.

These three words absolutely justify the last night's game between RCB and DC. Starting from DC's opening to RCB's last over in the second innings, every moment was intriguing and entertaining.

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and decided to bowl first. Both the openers of Delhi capitals Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan were thrashing boundaries all over and scored a good amount of runs in the first 10 overs. RCB failed to pick a single wicket in the first 10 overs and in the first ball of 11th over Harshal Patel, the Purple cap holder netted the big fish, Shikhar Dhawan. Next at 11.2 over Yuzvendra Chahal send Prithvi Shaw back to the pavilion with 101 runs on the scoreboard. The third wicket of captain, Rishabh pant was the major turn of the night. Next batters, Shreyas Iyer and Shimron Hetmyer scored 18 and 29 respectively before getting out. Overall Delhi Capitals aggregated 164 with a great performance by their openers.

In the second innings of the match, Delhi Capitals started with a bang as Anrich Nortje sent Devdutt Padikkal back with a duck at the 5th ball of the first over. Also, the captain Virat Kohli went out at 2.1 over after scoring only four runs. With such as disappointing performance by the openers, RCB had a good chance of losing the match. But then came Srikar Bharat to turn the match in RCB's favor. AB de Villiers also played a few knocks and scored 26 runs in 26 balls.

The most important part of the chase was played by Srikar Bharat and Glenn Maxwell. The man of the match Srikar Bharat aggregated 78 runs in 52 balls including 4 sixes and 3 fours. Whereas Glenn Maxwell smashed a half-century with 8 fours. The last over was such a stressful and nail-biting moment as RCB needed 15 runs. Maxwell started the over with a four and Srikar Bharat ended the thrilling final over with a six. Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets and are now at the 3rd position on the IPL points table. Even after losing the last qualifiers, Delhi Capitals is still at the top of the table.

Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad:

This qualifier was probably the most important match for Mumbai Indians. A lot was dependent on the performance of Mumbai Indians that night as the fourth position of playoffs was vacant and someone between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians had to fill it up.

The captain Rohit Sharma and the young batter Ishan Kishan opened the first innings and from the very first over, Ishan Kishan made sure to bring a huge storm of boundaries on the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. Mumbai Indians reached the mark of 80 runs even before the 6th over and the credit goes to none other than Ishan Kishan. In the initial matches of the second leg, Ishan Kishan was not performing well and was even not included in the team once. But the 23-year-old proved his caliber last night and aggregated 84 runs in just 32 balls including 11 fours and 4 sixes. Another star of the night was Surya Kumar Yadav who scored 82 runs in just 40 balls after having a very disappointing IPL. With the immense contribution of these two Indian batters, Mumbai Indians ended the first innings with 235 runs on the scoreboard.

The match was of no use for Sunrisers Hyderabad as they are at the 8th position of the table but their performances had the power of choosing the 4th spot of the playoffs. Sunrisers Hyderabad openers, Jason Roy and Abhishek Sharma started the match but went out soon with 34 runs and 33 runs respectively. Then Manish Pandey came to bat and scored 69 runs effortlessly in just 41 balls. Overall Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to score 193 runs with the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs and lost the match. Ishan Kishan was awarded the player of the match. Kolkata Knight Riders book their spot into the playoffs and will be facing Royal Challengers Bangalore on 11th October.

All the qualifying matches came to an in last night and finally, we got to know about all the four teams playing in the playoffs to book a ticket to the finals. The table topper Delhi capitals will be locking horns against Chennai Super Kings (2nd position at the table) on 10th October. The second playoffs will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore (3rdd position at the table) and Kolkata Knight Riders (4th position at the table) on 11th October.

Tendulkar’s brilliant 169 came in the second Test in Cape Town in the 1996 series. South Africa had made 529/7d, and in return, India was 58/5 when Tendulkar, the captain, got together with Mohammad Azharuddin to launch a scathing counterattack in a 222-run partnership. Tendulkar made 169 in 254 balls with 26 fours to his name. His knock was ended by a brilliant catch by Adam Bacher as India went on to lose by 282 runs.

Roughly 40 minutes later into the innings, Tanmay completed his triple ton from 147 balls. He eventually concluded his innings at 366 from 181 balls with 34 fours and 26 sixes as Hyderabad charted 615-4d in just 59.3 overs at a run rate of 10.33.

2. Ravi Shastri | 123 balls vs Baroda (1984/85)

The innings also marked Prithvi Shaw’s first-ever century for Maharashtra, as he continues to knock on selection doors for a spot in India’s Test line-up.

4. Rahul Singh | 143 balls vs Nagaland (2024/25)

Rahul Singh blew away Nagaland bowlers with an amazing double century from just 143 balls in the Plate Group match of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season back in January 2024. Batting first at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima, the cricketer unleashed 214 runs from 157 balls with 23 boundaries and nine huge sixes, and shared century-plus partnerships with opening batter Tanmay Agarwal and with captain Tilak Varma. 

Rahul Singh’s double ton helped Hyderabad to a monumental 474-5d in just 76.4 overs to set up a huge innings win by 194 runs over the hosts.

5. Snehal Kauthankar | 146 balls vs Arunachal Pradesh (2024/25)

Goa middle-order batter Snehal Kauthankar blasted a double century from just 146 balls during his batting against Arunachal Pradesh in the Plate Group match of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season back in November 2024 at the Goa Cricket Association Academy Ground. The cricketer scored 314 unbeaten runs in all from just 215 deliveries, thus also smashing one of the fastest Ranji Trophy triple hundreds in the same innings. 

Overall, Kauthankar scored 45 fours and four huge sixes and made a 606*-run partnership with fellow triple-centurion Kashyap Bakhale as Goa posted 727-2d before completing a remarkable innings win.

Known as the "God of Cricket," Sachin Tendulkar scored the most ODI runs in cricket history. Over his 23-year career (1989–2012), he represented India in 463 ODI matches. He scored 18,426 runs at an average of 44.83. His record also includes 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries. His highest score was an unbeaten 200.

In his 24-year international career, the Master Blaster also played in six ODI World Cups. He was part of the 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2011 ODI World Cups. In 2003, the Indian team narrowly missed winning the World Cup, losing to Australia in the final. In that World Cup, Sachin scored the highest number of runs (673) and won the Golden Bat award.

2. Virat Kohli | 14255* Runs

Indian batting stalwart, Virat Kohli, is now the second-highest run-getter in the format, going past Kumar Sangakkara. Kohli reached the landmark while guiding India to victory during batting against Australia in the third and final ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He overall scored 14,255 runs in 305 ODI matches with a highest score of 183. His tally also includes 51 centuries and 75 half-centuries.

Kohli also broke the record for most 50-plus scores in the second innings of ODIs, going past Tendulkar’s previous best of 69. He already holds the record for most centuries in ODI chases with 28 tons.

3. Kumar Sangakkara | 14234 Runs

Most ODI runs in cricket history

Kumar Sangakkara, a maestro with the bat, scored 14,234 runs in 404 ODIs during his career from 2000 to 2015 with 25 centuries and 93 half-centuries. He is the only player to score 4 consecutive centuries, which came during the 2015 World Cup, in which he was the highest run-scorer.

His dominant stroke play and versatile approach helped him succeed as an opener as well as in the top order. Sangakkara's highest score of 169 came against a South African attack comprising the likes of Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel in Colombo in 2013.

4. Ricky Ponting | 13704 Runs

Most ODI runs in cricket history

Ricky Ponting, one of cricket's greatest captains, amassed 13,704 runs at an average of 42.03, while striking at 80.39 in 375 ODIs between 1995 and 2012. He also has 30 centuries and 82 half-centuries to his name in the format with a highest score of 164. A dynamic batter, Ponting also hit 1,231 fours and 162 sixes. 

Apart from his batting ability, Ponting led Australia to two World Cup victories in 2003 and 2007.

5. Sanath Jayasuriya | 13430 Runs

At number five on this list is Sri Lanka's left-handed opening batter, Sanath Jayasuriya, who debuted in 1989 and played until 2011, where he scored 13,430 runs in 445 matches, at an average of 32.6, with a strike rate of 91.20.

Jayasuriya, along with those stats, had 68 half-centuries and 28 centuries to his name, as he was one of the finest players ever to come out of Sri Lanka. Not just that, the left-arm Sri Lankan legend also had a whooping 323 wickets to his name in as many games, as he helped the Island nation, on many occasions with his all-round abilities.

Apart from their 21 opening hundred stands, they added three century partnerships for the second wicket and two for the third.

The Indian pair has also racked up the most opening partnership runs in ODIs. Ganguly and Tendulkar scored 6609 opening runs while batting together.

2. Tillakaratne Dilshan-Kumar Sangakkara | 20

Most 100+ partnerships in ODIs

Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka have shared 20 100-plus stands among themselves in ODI cricket. Dilshan was a brutal hitter in his prime and accompanied by one of the best wicketkeeper-batsman Sangakarra haunted many bowling lineups. They have a batting average of 53.67 and have scored 5475 runs in 108 innings.

Their highest stand as a pair came in the 2015 World Cup against Bangladesh. They beat Bangladesh by 92 runs because of solid performances from Dilshan (161* off 146 balls) and Sangakkara (105 off 76 balls).

3. Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma | 19*

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli combined for an unbroken 169-run stand to see India to a comfortable nine-wicket win in the 3rd ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. With this, they have now 19 hundred plus partnership record in ODI cricket. Rohit ended with 121*(125) with 13 fours and three maximums while Kohli ended with 74*(81) with seven boundaries to his name.

This was also the 12th 150-plus partnership between Kohli and Rohit in ODIs, equalling Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly for the most 150-plus partnerships in the format.

4. Shikhar Dhawan-Rohit Sharma | 18
